‘The Diary of a Part Time Indian’ Anticipation Guide Paragraph

I disagree with the statement “If you are making fun of your own race, it is not racism”. Making fun of your own race might not be hurtful to you, but it can be to others. For example, the two phrases ‘long time no see’ and ‘no can do’, may seem like normal phrases, but were used to mock people that have English as a second language, mainly  targeting the Chinese. This might not seem harmful to the person with English as their first language, but saying it to those with trouble speaking English can be rude and mean.
